Bronx Haven High School is dedicated to providing a supportive community environment for the academic and socio-emotional development of over-aged and under-credited students from the Bronx and upper Manhattan. We operate on a rolling admissions process coinciding with our trimesters (September, December, March). Prospective students must be between the ages of 16-20 years old, and must have attended another high school for at least one year.
Our intake process begins with attending a monthly Open House in order to meet administration and students as well as explore our school culture and academic structure. Our next Open Houses will take place on: May 18th and June 15th from 6-8pm. Attendants are not required to RSVP, but are asked to come to the Open House equipped with the prospective student’s Transcript/Permanent Record, RISA (Attendance Record), Immunization Records, photocopy of student photo ID, and IEP (if applicable)*. At the conclusion of the Open House, all will have the opportunity to converse, pose questions, and sign up for an interview, the second step in our intake process.
We host interviews 12 times per week. The interviews last approximately 45 minutes and require the attendance of both parent/guardian/support person and perspective student. We have Spanish and French speaking staff should anyone require a translated interview. If the student did not submit all of the admissions documents (Transcript, RISA, Immunizations, photo ID), they must bring these documents along with them on the day of the interview in order to keep their appointment time. Interviewees who are more than 25 minutes late for their appointment must reschedule their appointment for a later date.
The final step in the intake process involves the assessment of the student’s quantitative and verbal literacy. Students will be given a date to return to sit for the TABE exam—our next TABE exam will take place on April 27 at 10AM. The TABE exam is NOT Pass/Fail, and the results of assessment do not factor into the candidacy of the applicant; rather it is intended to gauge the math and reading skills of the prospective student.
After the TABE exam, students will be notified within 2 weeks of our final decision.
